How to use product photos on social media

Product photos are a great tool for promotion on social media. They can make a major difference to sales and raise brand awareness. That's why I've put together a few tips on how to make the best use of product photos when promoting on social media.

Use a product photo as your profile picture

An attractive product photo is a perfect candidate for the profile picture or cover photo of your page on a social network – on Facebook, for example. “People see your profile picture every time you comment on something or reply to customers via Messenger. I recommend adding your company logo to the product photo as well. That raises awareness of your brand even more. A graphic designer can add the logo to the photo, but so can a skilled product photographer,” says product photographer and photo retoucher Dalibor Novotný.

Enrich your text posts with photos

On Instagram, photos play the leading role, so using product photos there is a no-brainer. But you should do the same on other social networks too, whether that's Facebook or the professional network LinkedIn. “Whenever you want to tell your customers something interesting, choose a matching photo to go with it. When presenting products on Facebook, adding a whole series of photos, together with text of course, often works well,” recommends Dalibor Novotný.

Use a product photo in a poll

Polls are very popular on social media, yet only a few companies use them, or they don't use them to their full potential. A poll can help you reach a wide audience and bring people to your website. So put some care into creating it. Don't rely on text alone – add a nice photo, too. As a company, you can use your product photos for this. Product photographer Dalibor Novotný adds that you can even build the poll around your product photos: “Let your followers vote on which product they like best.”

Tip: When creating a poll on social media, you can use your existing product photos or arrange with your product photographer to prepare eye-catching photos specifically for this purpose. Get ahead of the competition!

Tell stories with your product photos

On Facebook and Instagram you can create stories. Unlike regular posts, they are short-lived (stories stay active for one day, after which you can save them), yet they are very popular. In stories you can share, for example, the poll mentioned above, videos and, of course, photos. “Sharing product photos in stories is another great way to reach both existing and new customers on social media. But you need to be different so that your story doesn't get lost in the flood of others,” warns Dalibor Novotný.

Tip: Prepare a collage of product photos to share in your story. If your profile allows it, add a link to the product where customers can find more information or order it straight away.
