How professional photos helped a cosmetics brand stand out

When a client asked me to photograph the products of his new cosmetics brand, I knew it wouldn't be an ordinary job. The brand is gentle not only to the skin but also to nature. Its cosmetics come in glass containers that are easy to wash and reuse – no microplastics, no unnecessary waste.
The client first tried to photograph the products himself but soon found that glass is especially difficult to shoot. Reflections, transparency and keeping a luxurious look were a challenge he couldn't handle. So he turned to me – a professional product photographer.
Photographing glass products: why it's better to hire an expert
Photographing glass isn't easy. Unlike other materials, glass is highly reflective, and capturing its texture without distracting reflections takes experience, the right lighting and precise post-production.
The client needed catalogue photos on a white background for several types of packaging:
- Glass bottles with a pump
- Glass dropper bottles
- Glass cream jars
Browsing the client's website, I noticed that his online shop uses images with transparent backgrounds, so the products blend seamlessly into different parts of the site. To keep the look consistent, I suggested delivering the photos as PNG files with a transparent background.

A small detail, a big difference: why shadows matter
A flawless photo isn't enough – the product has to look natural and attractive in the image. That's why I added a soft side shadow to the final images, which visually “grounds” the product and makes it more appealing. The human brain perceives objects with shadows as more realistic, while photos without a shadow can look too artificial or cheap.
The result? Professional, elegant photos that underline the brand's premium quality and its focus on aesthetics.
